Elizabeth York lost her husband "It was a double whammy, as my grandmother had died the day before. When the police and victim support person knocked at my door at 1am they told me that my husband Allan had been in a car accident. They said he was presumed killed. mother and hand

How on earth, was I going to tell our three beautiful young boys that their Dad had been killed?  I prayed for the sun to never ever rise that morning. Their piercing screams when I told them about their Daddy haunted me for years.  I was so angry, confused, scared, and hurting, my body ached with pain that just would not go away.  I used to take the boys to school and then sit on the side of the road and cry for hours.  I had nowhere to go. My friends and family were a blessing, but they did not know the pain I was going through.   When Allan died, such a huge part me went too.

My boys and friends have been my rocks. They have been incredible; my strength has come from them. My dream is to have a safe haven for everyone to come too.  Nobody should have to make the side of the road their safe place, like I had to."
